with previous releases from some of the top heads of the electronic spectrum, including leif, steevio, arnaldo and more, the imprint untilmyheartstops returns with its latest release, this time for mysterious producer ekeko. rich analog tape waves sit nicely beside thick 909 rhythmic elements throughout this killer three tracker. the title track -beyond good & evil- starts things of with strong spirit, taking pulsations of warping synths and balancing them with hazy club driven patterns. this theme continues through fm joy and eye ache but with a wider focus on the dubbier elements of the electro and house spectrum.

2nd outing from jonny nash & suzanne kraft in their matstudio series. these records are intended to catalogue some of the experiments, explorations, accidents and fortuitous events that regularly take place at their amsterdam studio. each record features two compositions created from a collage of works.

charles duff and daniel fisher have known each other since well before their respective forays into dance music. they serendipitously crossed paths at some point in the early 2010s with mutual friends in the nyc club kid scene. shortly thereafter they realised they both were keen to ditch the vapid hipster bullshit that had fueled their early careers thus far in order to pursue something pure: techno. mind you, this was at a time when it was not terribly cool to be into underground dance music. if anything, they both were greeted with massive skepticism from their peers but that didn t ultimately deter them. both went from relative obscurity to regular slots at berghain. and for two american kids musing in a pathetic bedroom studio, this was nothing short of a dream come true. a prophecy had been fulfilled. the two tried their hands at numerous attempts at collaboration over a 5 year period but nothing seemed to stick. most of it sucked horrendously according to them. but not on this occasion. the stars finally came into alignment and they were able to execute a concise group of tracks that finally made sense together. which brings us to threads. threads, an homage to the uber-dystopian bbc docudrama from the 80s, sums up their dynamic approach to tracks. it s an alienating, sinister take on techno that somehow manages to not fully lose faith in dire times. much like life today.

shape-shifting post-punk quasi-legends bourbonese qualk are finally getting a bit of the shine they so richly deserve after years in obscurity, not least thanks to the retrospective compilation on mannequin back in 2015. now platform 23 are reissuing their classic album -laughing afternoon, originally released back in 1983 and having lost none of its impact. its a slippery, shape-shifting creation that veers between uneasy soundscapes and gutter-dwelling funk, with some truly visionary signal processing, electronic textures and more besides in the mix. its a crime this crew arent held in the same regard as their other early 80s post-industrial peers, but at least the wrongs are being righted now.

for the 4th emission in the sonar base transmissions series, deeptrax records turns back to the 2005 release on the now defunct uk label scsi av. like all older sonar base releases, the original vinyl issue of transmissions from beyond hoag s object is highly sought after, with matching high prices for a decent copy. next to that, the original version had a few flaws: the labels had been flipped, and the mastering wasn t up to the current standards. the tracklisting remained the same, only the sequence of the 6 tracks has slightly changed. those familair with the other sonar base releases know what to expect: pitch-dark, well crafted electro from outer space, some with a hint of melancholy. pressed at their own pressing plant deepgrooves on an 180gr heavy weight pressing.
